Cooper Farms Slip Form Silo

Fort Recovery, Ohio

PRODUCER: St. Henry Ready Mix

PRODUCTS USED: OptiFlo® MR, PCA-SRA

The continuous pour of the 175 ft high slip form silo at Cooper Farms began at 10:00 AM on March 26, 2008 and was completed five days later, two days ahead of schedule. The project used separate mix designs for the footer, walls, and top. Our admixture OptiFlo® MR was used in all three mix designs for its excellent water reduction and extrusion aid properties. Many slip form contractors utilize this product in order to increase production and reduce rework. Due to this many contractors prefer OptiFlo® MR over other standard water reducers.

The silo used 713 cubic yards of concrete, with 16 compartments slip formed simultaneously. PCA-SRA (Shrinkage Reducer) was added to the top mix design to minimize cracking. Concrete from St. Henry Ready Mix was delivered by crane and bucket, taking six hours to pass through the form after leaving the truck.
